At my baby shower, my two sisters gave me the most amazing gift. They created a baby book made up of illustrations from my favorite childhood books. Besides the fact that I was incredibly touched by the thoughtfulness and dedication that went into making it, it is legitimately one of the coolest things I have ever received (and this is coming from someone who owns an Elvis Presley baton).
So when my sister Ness became a victim of the pregnancy epidemic not long after, our other sister, T-Lu and I knew we had our work cut out for us. After throwing a bunch of ideas around for weeks, we finally settled on a personalized keepsake box as the shower gift. As Ness has always been a lover of Sleeping Beauty, we chose that as our theme.
As is typical, we started off by biting off more than we could chew, and decided to do something that we had never done before, and we hadn't really even seen. T-Lu found a metal and glass box that looked like it should contain a human heart to intimidate subordinates (which is oddly appropriate for a fairy tale theme). We decided against painting directly on the glass, and instead cut sheets of clear vellum to size, and slipped them underneath the glass after the paint dried. We each painted separate panels, which made things interesting, as we have quite different artistic styles. But we were quite pleased with the result.
Here are some photos of the finished product.
